Mumbai: From the buzzing streets of Mumbai to the lights of television sets and film studios, Jasbir Thandi’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. An artist of many talents—actor, mimicry performer, singer, and voice-over specialist—Thandi has carved a niche in the Indian entertainment industry with relentless dedication and sheer versatility.

A Musical Beginning
Born in Punjab and brought up in Mumbai, Jasbir’s creative spark ignited early. An ardent admirer of Mohammed Rafi, he often mesmerized classmates and teachers with his soulful renditions during school competitions. His love for singing and mimicry culminated in the formation of an orchestra group named “Zero Boy” in 1988–89. For nearly five years, the group enthralled audiences until its conclusion in 1992–93.
“That stage gave me confidence. People laughed, clapped, and cheered—I knew I wanted to be in front of audiences all my life,”he reflects with a smile.
From Mimicry to the Marathi Stage
A friend’s encouragement nudged him toward acting. Taking a bold step, Jasbir contacted renowned playwright Vijay Tendulkar and landed a part in a Marathi play, paving the way for a lifelong relationship with performance art.
His talent soon reached the airwaves. He won second prize in Close-Up Sangeet Muqabla on radio in 1993–94, and in 1994, he claimed victory in Doordarshan’s “Kaun Jeeta Kaun Hara”.
Breaking into Television and Film
Jasbir’s television career bloomed with his appearance in the Marathi serial “Imarat”, directed by Priya Tendulkar. The show, comprising 13 episodes, offered a unique platform where each episode explored a different story.

**A Commanding Voice in the Industry
Jasbir Thandi is also a highly respected voice-over artist. He lent his voice to the BKT Tyres campaign, dubbed the Punjabi version of “Singh is Kinng” (Censor Copy), and contributed to the Hindi dubbed version of “Jai Bhim”—a film known for its emotional intensity.
“Voice work demands absolute control. You must deliver meaning through tone, not just words,” he says, gesturing toward his recording booth.

“Train yourself. Respect the craft. Don’t just imitate—immerse. Learn from theatre, from legends, and never stop evolving.”
He encourages young talents to pursue acting seriously, stressing that the road to success is paved with hard work, not shortcuts.
